What to do with all the inkjet printers?!

With our recent purchase of color Sharp printer/copiers to address the issue of rising inkjet printer ink costs (much cheaper per page, and the print quality and speed rocks!), it’s time to remove the inkjet printers from everyone’s desks.  But what do we do with them?  The only possibility mentioned so far is to sell them to staff wanting them for personal use.  Is that the best option?  Is there a reason to keep any of the variety of inexpensive HP inkjet printer models on hand?  How much are they worth, if we paid $80 to $120 each for them and they’re by no means new?  Maybe it would work better to try and pay people to take them off our hands? :-)  I’m open to, and appreciative of, suggestions.

One of our clients had a great way to deal with retiring equipment. They would announce the list of equipment to the entire staff via email (SharePoint would work well too) and opened a silent bid process with a deadline. The process pretty well took care of itself and was very fair.

We take all technology equipment that is still of value and can be benefial to people and do a silent bid for missions! All proceeds go to a missions account!

David, will you be paying per-print service price on the color copiers? At work I am negotiating copiers. I am looking at .01 for B&W and .075 for color. How does that compare?

John – I’ll have to check, I wasn’t involved directly with the pricing negotiations for the copiers, just the technical side. I do know we use [1] as our copier supplier. They are an excellent company, I’ve visited their offices twice and they’ve provided excellent copiers and support of the same. I know the units are leased with a certain number of “clicks” included (we pay for paper), and we pay per copy above those clicks. Check back here for an update when I have one. You can email me if you want to talk offline (my name run together in front of lakeviewchurch.org should do it :-)
