I’m Still Here

Work was crazy leading up to our new building’s grand opening.  The good part?  We made it!  We had a major advertising supplement in the local paper, which was copied on their website [1].  Our Marketing and Communications department released our new website design [2] in time..  However, while not “bad,” things have actually gotten crazier since then.  All the small projects that were left undone to prepare for grand opening, now they have to get done.  Offices have to be moved (including mine, soon!) into the new building.  New Sharp color copiers/printers were installed last week (I’ll have to post about them soon, they rock!).  And the obligatory computers that aren’t working properly and need to be fixed keep popping up, new specialized computers still need to be configured (I’ve started testing the demo of Fortres Grand lockdown software [3] and it looks pretty good so far, details coming); you know, the usual and then some.  (Oh yeah, did I mention public wifi needs to be up by the middle of next month?)  Exciting and fun, but not much time to post!

Normally, I’d just spend some time at home posting.  Of course, at the same time as all of the above is going on at Lakeview, my wife and I are building a house (just made all the final design selections today!) and I have a bit of homework for a class I’m taking due this coming Monday (okay, “bit of” is an understatement :-)

For all these reasons…I’ll be back soon.  The homework can’t wait any longer.  I’ve enjoyed reading all the Church IT Roundtable [4]posts and they’ve made excellent diversions from schoolwork for as long as possible :-)

I was driving back from Bloomington this morning (I go to Purdue in West Lafayette) and while I was on 465 I noticed your building and saw the name and decided I had to check out the website. Low and behold, I’ve been reading your blog for quite some time. I saw the post and thought “Hmmm… that building looked new” and then noticed the sub-heading and Bingo! There it was.

The new website looks great, btw.

Hi Sam,

That is an interesting coincidence! At some point perhaps I’ll get around to posting some interior pictures from the new building, including of the network closets :-)

Glad you like the new site! I’ll pass your praise on to the Marketing/Communications guy that designed it along with some help from a local IUPUI student volunteer.

I’m an IUPUI student myself in the Purdue School of
Engineering and Technology’s Computer Information Technology program here in Indy…do you mind sharing what degree you’re pursuing at Purdue?

I’m a sophomore (very soon to be junior) in the School of Management with a Management major and marketing minor.

I was the web designer/caretaker of the website at my previous church (our family has since changed churches). I worked on it for about 5 years and had three versions of it. I really enjoyed it and miss it.

I also worked on publications, video projections and sound. To go to church and just sit there now is weird.
